Shaping Spaces – One Landscape at a Time

Our Landscape Architecture Service

Outdoor spaces are valuable assets to community, social wellbeing and the environment. Exterior spaces can delight, connect and improve existing or proposed developments. Our Landscape team can transform any outdoor space to suit local needs and requirements, all the while delivering sustainable designs that benefit people and nature. NDLA have been involved in a host of projects, ranging from small single residential developments to large scale commercial and strategic development sites, including heritage sensitive landscapes, education and healthcare projects.

Our Landscape Architecture Team

The team at NDLA are experienced in a wide range of Landscape Architecture elements and undertake works relating to Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Sustainable Practice. The approach at NDLA includes:

  • A collaborative design process driven by clients’ ambitions, site context and broader masterplanning frameworks.

  • A commitment to sustainable materials, biodiversity-led planting and resilient structures that endure.

  • Seamless integration with allied disciplines, hand-in-hand with NDLA’s multi‑region expertise across UK offices.

Our Approach

Site Analysis & Consultation

Initial project analysis includes a review of the existing site, topography, ecology, local and broader site context identifying the constraints and opportunities offered. This analysis, along with a clear understanding of the brief and early interaction enables our designers to fully understand the clients’ values and ambitions for the development. We also work closely with the wider consultant design team, where appropriate, to ensure a coordinated approach informs the design development.

Concept & Masterplanning

Throughout the concept stage, character areas and arrangement of proposed features will be explored to achieve the client’s vision, while seeking to deliver all elements of the brief. While masterplanning analyses potential land use, circulation, planting and infrastructure. Our team then utilise the robust concept proposal to develop the design through the illustrative masterplan stages (RIBA Stage 3), which in turn informs the detailed masterplan and final designs (RIBA Stage 4 and 5).

Detailed Landscape Design

Through the detailed design stage, we explore surfacing, planting and ecological enhancements to create a cohesive scheme that is functional and resilient. This includes assessing the carbon footprint of materials specified. Throughout this process the client is provided with design packs, illustrating the chosen landscape elements, planting mixes and BNG considerations (RIBA Stage 3).

Assessment & Sustainability

Sustainability features throughout our process and proposals, through the use of low-impact materials and biodiversity focused design. With Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) being undertaken where necessary and ensures the proposals integrate within the sensitivity of its setting.

Project Coordination

NDLA’s project coordination ensures a high-quality delivery from concept through to construction. The team works closely to bring their broad experiences to each project, ensuring a rigorous, quality-controlled output for the client.
